So It’s Hunting season here at my place. Fly Hunting.

Hunting season, the day every kid dreams of. The day their Dad finally gets fed up with all the flys in the house and offers a bounty on them. It’s not a large bounty by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a bounty .25 per confirmed kill, “No disintegration’s.” This has been made easy here lately as we really have been invaded.

You see we adopted a new dog here. She is a rescue dog and has her share of quirks. For example she is afraid of the dark. She appears to be afraid of the color green.  She sneezed and almost scared herself into a coma. Finally, she wants to come in from outdoors but is afraid to cross the threshold. She sits at the door and cries. The door is wide open but she cries at it anyway, you would think she was some form of magical creature unable to enter without an invitation.

Now we have flies from the door being open while we try and coax her into the house. Alot of flies. So I opened up hunting season. A few problems though. Apparently at this time of year you can’t find a fly swatter. Doesn’t make any sense to me really, I have flies I should be able to get a fly swatter. Nope, I looked everywhere. Instead we have rolled up newspapers and a brief attempt at shooting them from the sky with a Nerf gun. I nixed the use of a Bokken by my eldest daughter, I think she could probably get a few but the damage incurred would be to much.

So we ended up with a rather large variety of weapons to begin hunting season. I had a regular fly swatter, the very last on we had.  The eldest decided on a paper towel roll as her weapon of choice. She managed to kill several before the ceiling tile downstairs let loose. We retired the paper towel role at that point. Good thing we Didn’t let her use the Bokken.

Child number two went with a standard fly hunting tool. The rolled up newspaper. This kid has some skill she made almost five bucks and was smart enough not to go swinging at things that could break. Unlike her older Sister and I.

The youngest went with first the Nerf gun, hitting nothing but the other hunters and causing the dogs to eat several Nerf Darts in retaliation for him shooting them. He switched over to a rolled up magazine after his Nerf gun was taken away. He apparently put himself in charge of swatting flies that landed on the other hunters. Both of His Sisters were hit several times before he was disarmed and beaten for wiping nasty bug guts on them. I found all this rather funny until nasty bug guts was wiped on me. This of course led to lots of swatting each other with our varied different fly swatters until the Female parental unit stepped in and yelled at us all.

Now we have upgraded to dart guns that shoot out Webs to swat the flies. I was doing better with my fly swatter, we all were doing better with our different weapons of choice. The little guns are kinda fun though. Problem is the Dogs keep grabbing them and running away with them. But its fun. On the plus side the new dog is pretty good at catching the flies herself.
